NO OCUPADO

Picture from Occupy Oakland protests a few months back.

So the San Francisco Police finally cleared the Occupy SF protesters out of Justin Herman Plaza, earlier this morning.

Good.

I really wanted to back this so-called movement. It's an idea that is LONG overdue and something that needed to happen. Unfortunately, the group never seemed to gain any credibility, and was pretty much dismissed by the "99%'ers" they claimed to be fighting for. Personal opinion, of course, but I'm thinking it's because most people, including myself, don't understand how occupying a park will bring about change.

Anyway, I was watching the coverage on the morning news and found myself rolling my eyes dismissively at some guy with a video camera, who was giving an eyewitness account. He said he was a documentary filmmaker (i.e. unemployed amateur porn director) who claimed to have been told by those arrested (there were 70) that many of them were leaving 850 Bryant Street (Hall of Justice) with bruises. He also claimed to have footage of daily human rights violations from the encampment.

Daily human rights violations? Bullshit.

If there were, in fact, human rights violations happening on a daily basis, they would have been committed, I believe, by those living in the encampment. I say this because the Occupy SF group occupied that park for several months. They were treated with kid-gloves by city officials AND the police, and there didn't seem to be anything in the press (both mainstream and alternative) about this issue in the past.

What an asshole.
