She was born as James Slattery of Massapequa, Long Island, but she died as Candy Darling, Superstar.

I saw the documentary Beautiful Darling last night with Cookie. A terrific documentary with lots of archival footage that was funny and heart-breaking at the same time.

Looking at this picture, you can't help but think that she really pulled it off, absolutely beautiful.
