The California High Speed Rail Authority recently released an updated (and more believable) budget for construction of the rail line that is supposed to run between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Opps, I meant to say WAS SUPPOSED to run between San Francisco and Los Angeles, because, let's face it kids, it ain't gonna happen. The new budget now stands at $98.1 billion. The opening date has also been delayed by nine years, and the plan now relies on sharing tracks with commuter trains.
"The good news is the numbers are more realistic; the bad news is they may well be beyond reach," said state Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto.
