Way to go, Occupy Oakland protesters.
I know the pricks who went a 'burnin and a 'raving last night do not represent the majority of those in the movement, but they are the one's who get the coverage in the press, so here's a little unsolicited advice from someone who's been to a protest or two (back in the day):
1. Vandalism and violence have no place in your movement. A great way to alienate people from your cause is to go out and break windows, spray graffiti, burn stuff, and generally go crazy. More often than not, the businesses who bear the brunt of this are LOCALLY-BASED businesses that are run by folks who are a part of the "99%'ers."
2. Leave the face masks and paints at home. You lose all credibility when you try to give yourself anonymity. Have some balls. Show who you are, why your there, and what you stand for.
3. People live and work in Oakland. It's a town that is STRUGGLING, and you're not making it any better when you're destroying stuff. Money that could have been used to pay for a social or education program will, instead, now be used to pay for cleaning up streets and paying police overtime for booking all you assholes.
Just something to think about.
