LOST SAN FRANCISCO

The single-screen movie theatre and the neighborhood bakery.

The Alexandria Theatre was cut up into three cinemas back in the early 80's but has been closed for years now and is said to have a date with the wrecking ball when the economy improves.

Ahren's Bakery was one of those places filled with lonely seniors and the homeless, who spent their afternoons washing down bearclaws and eclairs with bottomless cups of coffee.

  1. I remember seeing the movie "Magic" at the Alexandria in 1978 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077889/) and when I saw "Pink Floyd's The Wall" there someone threw a stink bomb in the place and I got my money back. It's gonna close, eh? Maybe the Russian mafia will build a "cultural center" there, as that's become the neighborhood for Russian stores.

And Ahren's: I recently watched a "Streets of San Francisco" episode that showed Ahren's. I'll be looking very soon for my own bakery where I can be a lonely senior: I love bearclaws and coffee. It'll be missed.
