THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE


It seems to me a very odd choice for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to bestow the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Oprah Winfrey (for her charitable work).

Yes, Oprah has been a big booster of the organization, but she has only appeared in three theatrical films, The Color Purple (for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 1985), Native Son, and Beloved (she also provided voice over talent in four other films).

Oh well, the award is no longer apart of the official telecast, and will be presented at an event on November 12.
