FIELD TRIP

The first time I visited Fort Point, located directly below the Golden Gate Bridge, was right after seeing the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Vertigo. This was many years ago (late 80's) and back then, you were able to walk the outside perimeter of the aged structure, including the area where (in the film) Kim Novak throws herself into the choppy bay waters (the reason why I went in the first place).

Since then, that area has been fenced off due to security concerns, particularly since the bridge is directly above.

I suppose you can say the terrorists have won.

Anyway, I wandered inside the historic military installation yesterday, and was quite impressed with how well preserved the site is, considering it's located right on the edge of the Golden Gate Strait.
