HUCKLEBERRY FRIEND

The classic film Breakfast At Tiffany's was released 50 years ago YESTERDAY. Not sure how I missed this milestone, since it's a movie I really enjoy.

To celebrate it's birthday, I thought I'd pass along some factoids about the film:

*Author Truman Capote came up with the title after overhearing a conversation on the street between two ladies. One of them said she was hungry, and the other said "Oh, let's have Breakfast at Tiffany's," not realizing the fabled store was a jewelry store, not a department store.

*Marilyn Monroe was the first choice to play Holly Golightly, but was in a severe mental state in 1960, when the film was being cast. Steve McQueen was considered for the Paul Varjak role, but was under contract to a television producer. Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard were cast, instead. I can't imagine anyone else in these roles.

*As a joke, screenwriter George Axelrod told Truman Capote that the studio (Paramount) was having a little trouble with the film's title, so they were changing it to Follow That Blonde. Truman had shit fit and when he was told it was just a joke, he never spoke to George again.

*The name of the store is Tiffany & Co. and not Tiffany's, as most people think.

*The song Moon River was written specifically for Audrey to sing in the film and when one studio executive said it was stupid and should be cut, she said "over my dead body."
