TRICKY DICK

Take a little bit of old Hollywood glamour, mix in some D.C politics, top it off with a generous helping of Red-Baiting, and you've got yourself a terrific book called Tricky Dick and the Pink Lady, by Greg Mitchell.

Pictured above is actress and congresswoman Helen Gahagan-Douglas. She was the wife of actor Melvyn Douglas (and grandmother to Illeana Douglas). First eleceted to Congress in the mid 40's, Helen decided to run for the senate in 1950. Her opponent was republican Richard M. Nixon.

It is one of the most notoriously dirty campaigns in 20th Century politics and is well-chronicled in this book.
