CRACKS IN THE ARMOR

There have been grumblings about the Telegraph Hill Dwellers (a powerful neighborhood association) for years, in particular, the influence of former Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, his wife, Nancy Shanahan (Vice-President of THD), and the almost shameless way they've been able to wield their power to get the projects they favor approved, while having more important projects killed.

According to an article in today's edition of the SFGate, area residents, including past presidents of the Dwellers, are now willing to go on the record and ready to push back and expose the man and wife behind the curtain.

They say the THD, particularly Shanahan, tend to make decisions without input from the community, and then use their connections in the Planning Commission, three of which were appointed while Peskin served on the Board of Supervisors, to get their way.

C.W. Nevius writes an interesting piece on city politics, a neighborhood power struggle, and how Peskin and his wife may be running out of steam.
