SENATE BILL 54, WHERE ARE YOU?

California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed SB 54 into law today. It recognizes gay marriages performed out of state, although gay marriages performed in California are still banned, per Proposition 8.

Said Assemblyman Mark Leno: "we wrote the bill very specificially to match not only the intent but the very words of the Supreme Court's decision in upholding Prop. 8,'' he said. "We thought it was necessary to clarify the legal status of thousands of legally married couples."
