When I was a smoker, I was paying $7 to $8 a pack, but that was because I was switching between Nat Sherman and Dunhill brand cigarettes. I mean, if you're gonna smoke a cigarette, smoke a good one, right? Just for comparison, the price of a pack of Marlboro or Parliments was $5.
Anyway, I'm only mentioning it because I read a very funny article in the New York Times about how the latest cigarette tax increase has raised the price of a pack to roughly $12.60. This tax-hike has caused an increase in the illegal practice of selling "loosies," which are cigarettes sold individually (one for .75 cents, 2 for a $1).
