AND THE WINNER IS . . .

The 1989 Oscars are not so fondly remembered. The show opened with a nearly career-ending duet between Snow White and Rob Lowe (it did kill the career of Allan Carr, producer for the program that year). It was PAINFUL to watch to watch.

What most people forget is that this telecast was, after the opening musical debacle, was the most smoothly run program in years. It was light, entertaining, and most importantly, ended ON TIME!

This is also the year they did away with "and the winner is . . . " and announced the winners with "and the Oscar goes to . . . "
