TRIBUTE

You don't know his name but if you live in the SF Bay Area, you are the beneficiary of his hard work.

When presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999, President Clinton said that Edgar Wayburn did more to preserve open space than any other person. He worked to increase Mt. Tamalpais State Park from 470 acres in 1948 to 6,300 acres in 1972. He also lobbied to have the Point Reyes National Seashore created, becoming the first urban national park in America. Edgar was also responsible for working for the passage of a 1980 bill that preserved 80 million acres of open space in Alaska.

Edgar passed away this past Friday at the age of 103.

Thanks, Edgar. You did good.
