PLASTIC KILLS

I apologize for the graphic nature of this photo but sometimes the truth needs to be graphic. This bird washed ashore on the island Midway Atoll and it's assumed that it ate plastic from an area in the Pacific Ocean known as the "Pacific Trash Gyre."

Twice the size of the state of Texas, this "vortex" is sort of an oceanic trash pile that's caught up in a circular-current, causing the plastics and other trash to break up while in it's never-ending spin. Birds and sea life feed on this garbage, which of course, kills them. There is also another garbage vortex in the South Pacific as well.

http://www.fakeplasticfish.com/ is a website I discovered recently that gives great advice on how to live a plastic-free lifestyle (as much as one can with plastic in nearly all consumer products). I'm doing as much as I can and think this website is a great resource for going further.

Check it out.
