A few months ago, I spent the afternoon at my cousin Margaret's house learning to make Posteles. Posteles are the Puerto Rican version of the Tamale, except that the masa is made from green bananas. It's what I had for dinner tonight, along with steamed Asparagus.
The recipe used was my great-grandmother Mela's (my maternal grandfather's mother), so I was especially proud to have learned to make them from her recipe and then have it handed down to me.
She died shortly after I was born and I only met her once, but having my dinner come from her recipe is almost like having her here cooking for me.
So cool.
